MassCommute Car-Free Day
September 22
World Car-Free Day 2023 was a resounding success! Celebrated every year on September 22, Car-Free Day aims to reduce car usage around the world. It challenges individuals to leave their car at home for an entire day! MassCommute, the coalition of 15 TMAs in the Commonwealth, spearheaded the event in Massachusetts. Participants pledged to use eco-friendly commuting methods like walking, biking, carpooling, and public transit. With a remarkable 2,165 car-free pledges, Massachusetts saw significant environmental benefits:
34,046 miles saved
1,361.84 gallons of fuel saved
$17,703.71 in cost savings
Public transit emerged as the most popular green mode of transport. Together, participants saved 26,419.24 lbs of Greenhouse Gases.
Let's aim to surpass this achievement in 2024!
